Robert Chesal

Robert Chesal is a part-time lecturer in journalism and media studies. He is also an investigative reporter, author and translator. Chesal reported on international current affairs for Radio Netherlands Worldwide from 1991-2012. In 2010, he won three awards including the Dutch title Journalist of the Year for the investigative reporting through which he exposed wide-scale sexual abuse of minors in the Roman Catholic Church. Earlier, Chesal won prizes at the New York Festivals for his radio documentaries. In 2012 he published Een verzwegen leven, a Dutch non-fiction memoir that retraces his investigation into abuse in the church. His articles have appeared in various Dutch and international news media including NRC Handelsblad, The Guardian and The Daily Beast. Aside from his work at LUC The Hague, Chesal is a lecturer in the Master's program in international journalism at the University of Groningen.
