Patrícia Nogueira Rinaldi is a Marie Curie Fellow at the Institute of Political Science of Leiden University. Her research project, ‘Bridging Diplomatic Divides through the Rights of Nature: European and Latin American Approaches to Redefining Sustainable Development at the United Nations’, examines how the rights of Nature can bridge diplomatic divides between European and Latin American approaches to sustainable development within the United Nations. The project develops a shared diplomatic framework for integrating the rights of Nature into the post-2030 UN Sustainable Development Agenda.

Her research and teaching focus on exploring how the United Nations has supported South-South cooperation and an Earth-centered paradigm in policy transfer and diffusion for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Before joining Leiden University, Patrícia was an Associate Professor of International Relations at Centro Universitário FACAMP (College of Campinas, Brazil) and the Director of its Center for Studies and Research in International Relations. She also served as Academic Coordinator of FACAMP Model United Nations, an educational initiative affiliated with the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) that promotes global citizenship and a culture of peace among young people.

Patrícia is an expert member of the United Nations Harmony with Nature Programme Knowledge Network, where she contributes to advancing the rights of Nature within the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. She also serves on the Executive Board of the Global Governance Forum and on the Steering Committee of the Article 109 Coalition for a Renewed UN Charter.
