Nele Kortendiek is a Lecturer in International Relations at the Institute of Political Science.

Dr. Nele Kortendiek is a political scientist, specialising in International Relations. Her research interests include global governance and international institutions, with a focus on global public policy, the crisis of the multilateral order, transnational actors, and international migration.

Prior to joining Leiden University, she was a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) and the Principal Investigator of the DFG-funded research project "International Organisations: Norm-Setting and Implementation for the Protection of Forced Migrants." She also held positions at Frankfurt, Friedrichshafen, the WZB Social Science Center Berlin and Oxford.

Her work has appeared in various international journals, including the European Journal of International Relations, International Studies Review, International Studies Quarterly and Review of International Studies. Her first monograph Global Governance on the Ground was recently published by Oxford University Press.

Nele’s research has been recognised with several awards, including the Best Dissertation Award from the German Political Science Association (DVPW) and the Chadwick Alger Prize from the International Studies Association (ISA).
