More information about Mick Deben

Mick Deben is a external and parttime PhD candidate at the Leiden Institute for Advanced Computer Science (LIACS). His research focuses on defensive cybercriminal concealment techniques applied by ransomware groups. These techniques allow cybercriminals to evade detection, disrupt investigations, and complicate attribution. Defensive cybercrime concealment is a fundamental enabler of cybercrime and instead of focusing on how cybercriminals attack organizations, his research focuses on how they hide themselves in and through cyberspace. He has over 12 years of experience working as a cybersecurity consultant across multiple sectors, including higher education and research, telecommunication, healthcare, small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMB), and local government. He has obtained a BSc in Information Security Management at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and a MSc in Cyber Security at Leiden University.
