My research is embedded in the VIDI-project ‘Greek Criticism and Latin Literature. Classicism and Cultural Interaction in Late Republican and Early Imperial Rome' (supervised by dr. Casper de Jonge, Leiden University). The focus of my PhD thesis will be on the canons of Greek literature in Dionysius of Halicarnassus’ 'On Imitation' (which fragmentarily survives) and Quintilian’s 'Institutio Oratoria'. Special attention will be paid to the concepts of Greek 'mimêsis' and Roman 'imitatio', as well as to the discourse in which Dionysius’ and Quintilian’s canons are presented. The placement of their ‘reading lists’ in the wider context of Greek and Roman classicism will also be taken into account.
