Short CV

Maria Sherwood-Smith studied French and German at Trinity College Dublin and completed her doctorate at the University of Oxford. After 2 temporary lectureships in German Studies at the universities of Manchester and Oxford, she moved to the Netherlands in 1999 and carried out postdoctoral research at VU University Amsterdam. Throughout this time, she also worked as a freelance translator and language editor, mainly for academic publications. Since March 2003 she has been employed as a translator of English with the Netherlands Police Agency (now the Central Unit of the Netherlands Police). On 15 October 2013 Maria joined the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences as a Lecturer in Academic English.
