My PhD research examines the interactional dynamics and the emergence of violence in public interpersonal encounters, using video data as the primary source of analysis. I investigate how violent situations unfold moment by moment through embodied and verbal interaction.
Prior to joining Leiden University, I completed my MA in Sociology at TU Berlin and was a visiting graduate researcher at UCLA, where I specialised in Conversation Analysis. Employing an interpretive, video-based approach, my research contributes to a deeper understanding of how violence emerges in real-world settings and advances methodological and theoretical discussions of violence in social interaction.
This research forms part of the ERC-funded project Turn-Taking and Turning Points in Violent Encounters.
