Conservation Architect

Lama is a Syrian expert in cultural heritage preservation, with over 14 years of experience in restoration, disaster risk management, and community engagement. She is the founder of Turathuna Foundation in Syria and in the Netherlands and a founding member and former vice president of ICOMOS Syria.

A member of ICORP and an ICCROM Mentor, Lama has led significant restoration projects, including the revival of the First Ancient Theater in Homs.

Current research

She is currently pursuing a PhD in Heritage Management at Leiden University, combining academic research with hands-on action to safeguard heritage in both peace and crisis contexts.
She continues to lead initiatives, design training programs, and share her expertise to empower local communities through cultural heritage.

Turathuna Foundation

Reviving Heritage, Empowering Communities

Lama Abboud is the founder and chairman of Turathuna foundation. A non-governmental, non-profit organization, established in 2019 amidst the devastation in the city of Homs, as a response to the urgent need to rescue Syria’s wounded cultural heritage. Founded by a group of experts in cultural and natural heritage. By bridging academic research with field practice, Turathuna strives to preserve Syria’s tangible, intangible, and natural heritage, safeguarding identity, strengthening belonging, and fostering cultural, economic, and touristic revival.

Turathuna foundation (stichting Turathuna) is a Heritage NGO, registered in the Netherlands N:( 89870425) on 11th of April 2023.
