After researching inequity aversion in dogs and bonobos during her bachelor’s and master’s projects, Kia Radovanović conducted a study on cross-species pupil mimicry in dogs at the CoPAN Lab.
This sparked a natural and growing interest in the comparative study of emotions across species, particularly through diverse methodologies such as eye-tracking technology, touchscreens, and behavioural experiments. Following a year-long Research Assistant position at the CoPAN Lab, Kia has now embarked on a PhD journey that unites her key interests: cooperation and emotions in chimpanzees and bonobos. In her PhD, she explores various mechanisms of cooperation, how emotions are expressed and perceived, and their roles as potential mechanisms supporting cooperation—with an aim to better understand the evolutionary trajectory of these socio-emotional cognitive skills.
