Education
Katharina Krüsselmann trained as an anthropologist (Radboud University Nijmegen) and criminologist (Leiden University). She earned her PhD in 2024 at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs, Leiden University. Her doctoral research focused on the nature and extent of firearm violence in the Netherlands and Europe.

Career
After completing her PhD, Katharina Krüsselmann remained affiliated with Leiden University for a project on using synthetic data to make sensitive data in the field of criminology more open and accessible. She subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Erasmus University Rotterdam between 2024 and 2026 on the In Search of Trust project, researching the relationship between young people and actors within the juvenile justice system. In the context of this project, she was also affiliated as a researcher with the Police Academy (Politieacademie).

Research Areas
Her research focuses on firearm violence, interpersonal violence, police-youth interactions, and open science. She conducted doctoral research on the prevalence and impact of firearm violence in Europe, and also engages with other forms of interpersonal violence, identity politics, and research methods. Within the interdisciplinary In Search of Trust project, she studied trust between young people and the police, with attention to youth participation in research.

As an assistant professor, Katharina Krüsselmann teaches a range of courses and programs. She is currently involved in the courses 'Research Methods' (Comparative Criminal Justice, MSc), 'Introduction to Criminology' (Cybersecurity & Cybercrime, BSc), and Environmental Criminology (Criminology, BSc).
