Kartika Herscheid is a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Economics at Leiden University.

Kartika holds a Research Master's degree in Economics from the Paris School of Economics (2023), with a specialisation in Public Policy and Development, and a BSc in Economics from Tilburg University (2021), including an exchange semester at Sciences Po Paris. Before joining Leiden, she worked as a research assistant at the London School of Economics, Sciences Po Paris, and Uppsala University, and as a Junior Policy Analyst on the OECD's PISA team.

Her research focuses on the economics of migration, in particular the socio-economic trajectories of displaced populations, drawing on empirical methods including survey and administrative data. Her work on Ukrainian refugees in Europe has been published in International Migration Review. She also has experience working with archival data and an interest in economic history and research on institutional development.
