I'm generally interested in how things we know today came to be the way they are. Mainly I focus on our bodies, ability to communicate flexibly through vocalizations, and how these enable us to do things that characterize our species - sophisticated theory of mind, complex cultural traditions and institutions. To do so, I develop comparative methods and explore how we resemble (and how we differ from) other animal species. I am fortunate to be able to work with great apes - including my fantastic colleagues. Even though animals more closely related to us have an obvious appeal, I also find it interesting to look at other species.
