Ian Simpson is Assistant Professor in Heritage Practices in the Faculty of Archaeology at Leiden University.
Research
Ian Simpson's work examines heritage practices in society from critical and anthropological perspectives, including the demands and expectations of heritage in environmental, community and memory projects. His research also investigates relationships between religion, environment, materiality and market exchange in early Islamic and medieval history, based on field research in Jordan and the Arab Gulf States.
Ian Simpson is also a member of the Centre for Global Heritage and Development.
