Faizal Rianto is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Political Science.

Before joining the Institute, he was a lecturer at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik Raja Haji (Raja Haji College of Social and Political Sciences) in Indonesia. He earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Raja Haji College of Social and Political Sciences, a master's degree in management from Universitas Terbuka (Indonesia Open University), and a master's degree in public policy from the National University of Singapore.

His research focuses on decentralisation, poverty, and local governance through a study of indigenous communities in the Riau Islands, Indonesia.
