Esmée Turpijn is an external PhD candidate in the Violence and Violence Prevention research group at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs. In her current project, she is looking into the social well-being of children who have lost a parent to intimate partner homicide, often at the hands of the other parent. To do this, she uses both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Before this, she studied Security Studies (Leiden University) and Crisis and Security Management, specialising in the Governance of Violence (Leiden University). Currently, in addition to being a PhD candidate, she is a Research Master’s student in Social Sciences at the University of Amsterdam, where she specialises in quantitative research. In the past, she has undertaken internships with, among others, the National Police (National Undermining Programme) and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee. Additionally, she has been involved in the Dutch Femicide Monitor project as a student assistant since its commencement.
