Christof Nägel is an Assistant Professor in the Violence and Violence Prevention research group at Leiden University. He is a sociologist by training and previously held teaching and research positions at the University of Cologne, Utrecht University, and the German Police University in Münster.
Christof Nägel's research examines the causes and consequences of violence, with a particular focus on policing, youth delinquency, and the role of ethnicity in violent crime. Using quantitative approaches to causal inference, his research spans topics published in outlets like the Journal of Experimental Criminology, Journal of Criminal Justice, European Journal of Political Research, and Sociological Science.
In teaching, Christof has extensive experience in both introductory and advanced courses on statistical methods, criminology, and policing. He regularly supervises bachelor’s and master’s theses and has co-supervised PhD projects. His teaching emphasises hands-on empirical research and the application of rigorous quantitative methods to real-world problems.
