Creative process of drag performance in Japan.

Research

The research focuses on how the drag performances are made, and how the persona as a drag performer develops through each performance. Rich history of gender-bending performances in Japan as cultural background, drag shows itself to be more than just a queer theatrical performance. The observation on creative process allows us to see drag as a form of artistic practice, and expand on individual stylistic choices and their manifestation, which shows a vast variety of drag performances.
