Batuhan Parmaksız is a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Middle East Technical University (METU) and a research assistant at the Social Sciences University of Ankara. His doctoral research explores modern Turkish political thought and Cold War intellectual history through the lens of the social history of political thought. Focusing specifically on Hikmet Kıvılcımlı’s political and historical writings, his broader research interests encompass historiography, historical sociology, and transition debates. Supported by the TÜBİTAK 2214-A International Research Fellowship Programme, he is currently a visiting PhD researcher at the Leiden University Institute for Area Studies (LIAS) under the supervision of Dr. Alp Yenen, conducting archival research on Turkish political thought and social history.
