More information about Alicia Sanchez Reyes
Alicia Reyes (Extremadura, 1996) is a composer and media artist working across music theatre, ecology, site-specific practices, and artistic research.
Her recent musical and multimedia theatre projects engage with postnatural narratives that address contemporary ecological challenges. She is currently pursuing a docARTES PhD at the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA), Leiden University. Reyes’s research rethinks what composition can be in times of ecological crisis and explores how the human might be repositioned within artistic ecosystems shaped by more-than-human agencies. Within this research, she has a particular interest in botanical gardens and tropical greenhouses, making Leiden’s Hortus Botanicus a key site for experimentation and artistic investigation.
In parallel, she is affiliated as a researcher with the MetamusicX cluster at the Orpheus Institute in Ghent, Belgium, which focuses on the artistic-research implications of posthuman thought.
She holds a degree in Music (Piano Performance) from the Conservatoire of Badajoz and completed a postgraduate course in New Compositional Techniques at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, with a focus on multimedia techniques for electronic music making. She subsequently earned a master’s degree in Contemporary Composition and Performance (CoPeCo), during which she studied across multiple European countries.
Her work has been presented at festivals including Ciclo de Música Contemporánea (Badajoz, ES), ZKM (Karlsruhe, DE), Kampnagel’s Nordwind Festival, Blurred Edges, and WE PRESENT (Hamburg, DE), The Toy Piano Takes the Stage (Como, IT), Sommer in Stuttgart – Festival Neuer Musik (DE), Neue Musik in St. Ruprecht (Vienna, AT), and Den elektroakustiska konsertserien (Stockholm, SE).
Reyes co-runs STUDIO NOCLIP, a multidisciplinary collective exploring interactive environments and generative dramaturgies within theatre-making, creating performances that blur the boundaries between reality and fiction.
