Visualization of the heart and blood vessels by non-invasive imaging tools is fascinating. Computed Tomography (CT) as well as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are continuously evolving and undergo marked technical innovations, allowing non-invasive visualization of the heart and blood vessels. The challenge is to develop these state-of-the-art technologies for clinical use, taking advantage of the latest technological advances. Research opportunities in Radiology arise at the meeting point between clinical applications and the options offered by the latest technology. Implementation of these technologies in daily patient care contribute to improved diagnosis and treatment of patients with acquired and congenital cardiovascular disease.

The title of his inaugural lecture was 'Vorm en functie in de radiologie'.
