The China Scholarship Council (CSC) offers several scholarship programmes for prospective PhD candidates. Chinese Master students are welcome to pursue a PhD degree at Leiden University (including the Leiden University Medical Centre) and are advised to apply for a CSC scholarship through the general channel in the 2026 application round.

The LDE GMD Seed Fund provides funding for migration and diversity-related research, events and community projects that stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration and interuniversity engagement. Funding is available for individual and teams of master's students, PhD candidates and researchers.

The Leiden University Fund (LUF) offers a range of subsidies that contribute towards education and research within Leiden University. For example subsidies for scientific projects, study trips for PhD candidates, innovative activities, and study or internships abroad for students.
