The project “Hosting Global Justice” explores the Netherlands’ unique role as host state of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC). In The Hague, the legal capital of the world, we will organize an interdisciplinary conference to bring together scholars and practitioners to examine what hosting these international courts means in legal, political and societal terms. Through an open call for papers and invited speakers, we create a focused platform for dialogue, fresh ideas and new research partnerships across international law, political science and related disciplines. The project also connects academic debate to institutional and societal partners in The Hague. 

Goal of the project

The project seeks to build an interdisciplinary network on the Netherlands’ role as host state of international courts, catalyzing new collaborations and critical reflection on the country’s unique place in the international legal order. 

Interdisciplinary approach

The project seeks to combine perspectives from international law, political science, and related disciplines. By bringing together researchers and practitioners from these different disciplines, the project will hopefully help to develop a comprehensive understanding of the legal, political and societal dimensions of global justice.
