MARS is a research and staff exchange programme that promotes international and inter-sectoral collaboration through sharing of knowledge and ideas from academia to industry (and vice versa). The project is implemented through secondments and training & networking activities (workshops, seminars, conferences). The main goals are two-fold: firstly, to produce empirical data on migration processes in non-Western locales, and secondly, to contribute to migration studies theory-building with new insights and through comparative perspective.
In the context of MARS, Akinyinka Akinyoade received funding for a secondment in July-August 2025 to the Centre for Migration Studies (CMS) at the University of Ghana, Legon. While at the CMS, Akinyinka’s research focus was on New Frontiers of Intercontinental Migration from Africa from 2015. The study aims at providing policy insights for improved migration governance practices for stakeholders inside/outside EU. Also, while at the CMS, he contributed to teaching in Research Methods for Post-Graduate Students. In addition to academic publications, another deliverable to be expected from the project is to conduct a practical workshop to share intersectoral skills that fellows on the programme have acquired.
