In the series ‘In Search of Japan’ (Op zoek naar Japan), hosts Paul Maas and Nadia Kreeft-Mishkovskyi speak with curators and researchers about their fascination with Japan, their research, and their favorite items from the Leiden Japan collections. Using maps, travel books, and prints, they explore unique stories about Japan and its history.
In each episode, young Japanologist Sam Kuivenhoven shares an anecdote about Philipp Franz von Siebold: the colorful German physician who worked at the Dutch trading post on the small island of Dejima during the nineteenth century.
