In Memoriam: Vojtech Šimáček
We are deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Vojtech Šimáček. Vojtech joined the MA Asian studies as well as the Leiden Leadership Program in 2024.
Vojtech stood out to his lecturers as a driven and dedicated student, who took a particular interest in the study of the economy and politics of India as one of the most dynamic countries to study and know today. His pursuit of the Leiden Leadership Program in addition to his full-time MA is an indication of his ambition and commitment to his education and personal development. For his MA thesis, he examined the automobile industry in India, using Skoda as a case study.
Even when faced with illness and prolonged treatment, Vojtech was unwavering in his commitment to his education, recording video presentations while away for treatment. He never allowed his illness to stand in the way of his passion for learning. He was highly likeable, curious about new ideas and different parts of the world, and always respectful and cordial towards his lecturers and peers. He made a lasting impression on those who had the chance to meet him.
His passing is an incredible loss. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and loved ones during this painful time.
