In memoriam Frans Saris
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Prof. Dr. Frans W. Saris.
It is with great respect that we remember Frans, Dean of the Faculty of Science from 2002 to 2007. He was an inspiring and strong administrator, who took many initiatives that were connecting and cross-disciplinary and provided the faculty with a new impetus. The annual publication of the booklet "What we are proud of" and the "Saris lunches" that still exist today under the name ‘Tuesday Talks’, are just a few examples. He was also an enthusiastic teacher, creative writer on scientific and socially important topics and a tireless advocate of a meaningful relationship between science and society. The university and the faculty owe him a great debt of gratitude and will honour his memory.
Our thoughts are with his children, family, and loved ones. We wish them much strength and courage as they cope with this great loss.
