Video production of Richard Barrett's composition 'world-line'

The Elision Ensemble made a video production of Richard Barrett's half-hour composition 'world-line'.

In January of this year the Elision Ensemble (Daryl Buckley, Peter Neville and Tristram Williams), together with sound engineer Alistar McLean and videographer Agatha Yim, made a video production of the half-hour composition world-line for electric lap steel guitar, trumpet, percussion and electronics, in the Salon of the Melbourne Recital Centre.

Richard Barrett - world-line (2012-14)

world-line is a 30' compositional cycle for piccolo trumpet/quartertone flugelhorn, percussion, electric lap steel guitar and electronics. 

In physics and cosmology a world-line describes the path an object takes through four-dimensional spacetime. Here, the journey is marked by the energies of fifteen different vortices that fling the listener and performer ever outwards into new sonic dimensions with 'Rasa', the eighth movement, being the still centre of this hurricane universe. From the pounding opening chords of 'Dust 1' to the madcap tightly woven ensemble of the 'Lens' sequence, invention is ceaseless.
