Dissertation Joost Grootens awarded as one the Best Dutch Book Designs 2021.

PhDArts alumnus Joost Grootens’ book 'Blind Maps and Blue Dots: The Blurring of the Producer-User Divide in the Production of Visual Information’ has been selected in the competition the Best Dutch Book Designs 2021.

The book is the public edition of Grootens’ 2020 dissertation* of the same name. Also the new bible** translation NBV21 that was designed by Grootens’ studio was awarded in the design competition.

Every year, The Best Dutch Book Designs Foundation celebrates the best that the graphics sector produces: 33 books made with heart and soul. Books that distinguish themselves strongly in the combination of very good design, commissioning and high-quality lithography, printing and binding. 

The Best Dutch Book Designs are central to the exhibition of the same name in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and can be visited later this year.

Joost Grootens

Joost Grootens (NL) studied architectural design at Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam and obtained his doctorate at PhDArts / ACPA. He established Studio Joost Grootens (SJG) in 1995. Grootens is Professor Artistic Research in Visual Design at the Royal Danish Academy Copenhagen.
