Newspaper El Heraldo de México on Natalia Sobrino-Saeb, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize Essay Competition

Natalia Sobrino-Saeb, third-year student at LUC, won the competition by the Ignitor Fellowship Program held by the Nobel Peace Center for her essay on the threats to journalism in Mexico. An article about Natalia and her prize appeared in the Mexican newspaper El Heraldo de México.

In an interview, the Mexican student emphasises how important it is that the whole world be informed of the sad reality in which journalists in Mexico live. A lecture at FGGA on how journalism can be used as a mechanism against corruption motivated her to write the essay ‘Life or Death: Being a Journalist and Exposing Corruption in Mexico’.  Because she won the essay competition, she was allowed to attend the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. There was only a group of 50 people present due to corona measures, so it was a very special experience. She had the unique opportunity to attend the speeches of the winners of the Nobel Peace Price, journalist Maria Ressa, from the Philippines, and her colleague Dmitry Muratov, from Russia.
