Alumni Career Support Café 2019
On Thursday 7 February 2019, the Office for International Education of Leiden Law School successfully held the first Alumni Career Support Café. The event was specifically for students from all the Advanced LLM Programmes. After some words of inspiration from the Career Advisor of the Law School and Advanced Master Alumni, many students took the opportunity to talk to the alumni in person and share contacts.
The speakers Career Advisor Marije Bedaux and our advanced LLM alumni, Narin Idriz (EIBL), Seif Kabil (EIBL), Emine Yetisir (EIBL), Pauline Bové (EIHRL), Bonifasius Satriyo (ICCL), Emma van Leusden (PIL), José La Riva Leal (L&DT), shared their fascinating experiences and gave the current international students tips and tricks for their future endeavors in finding a job/internship in The Netherlands as a foreign national.
The alumni discussed their experiences in Their Struggles, Never giving up! And Not waiting, taking their chances! They also informed the current student how important it is to learn the Dutch language at least for everyday conversation. 'The working language of the company may be English but at coffee, lunch and social situation the main language will usually be Dutch.'
The last speaker Emine Yetisir (EIBL), is a Nuffic Alumni ambassador who regularly visits Leiden to inform students about finding work in The Netherlands. 'My career advice, give yourself time to discover what you really like, in which area you would like to specialise and what type of organisation you would like to work in. Being a trainee or a volunteer would help you a lot in this regard. Once you know what you really want to do, writing your CV and preparing yourself for an interview will be a lot easier.'
After the main presentations the alumni and students were able to talk informally over drinks in the Global Lounge.
