SBB team wins Philips Innovation Award

On Monday May 8th, two Leiden Startups took part in the finals of the Philips Innovation Awards. One Leiden venture, Levels Diagnostics, was selected as the winner of the €10.000,- price in the category of ‘Rough Diamonds’.

The 12th edition of the Philips Innovation Awards was an inspiring event filled with young and ambitious student entrepreneurs from all over the Netherlands. Innovative companies in the fields of precision agriculture, medical technology, infrastructure and mobility presented their startups to the experts jury consisting of business experts like the CEO of Philips, Frans van Houten and founder of Picnic, Michiel Muller. An inspiring keynote was given by prince Constantijn encouraging all students to innovate!

Two of the three finalists for the Rough Diamonds awards were Leiden teams with science students from the Leiden Science Based Business (SBB) specialisation: Polariks, the wine drone company, presented their plans to innovate the wine industry with space technology. Dennis van der Wiel and Max Wijsman use drones to analyse flavour molecules in wine. Levels Diagnostics is developing a rapid diagnostics tool to differentiate a bacterial and viral infection with just one drop of blood. Mark Schoonderwoerd, Blandine Le Tallec, Christiaan Roskam and Coen Breedveld were selected as the winner of the €10.000,- award in the category of ‘Rough Diamonds’.
