Prof. Dr. Judi Mesman received the ERC Consolidator Grant
Prof. Dr. Judi Mesman, Dean of LUC The Hague, received the prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant (2 million euros) for a research project on gendered educational pathways.
In Europe – and particularly in the Netherlands – women are strongly underrepresented in technical and science programs and professions. As there is little or no difference in the performance of men and women in science subjects, female talent in this sector is being lost. Similarly, men are underrepresented in professions working with youth, whereas there is no evidence that they are not suitable for this type of work.
In this research about gender inequality in education, Judi Mesman will develop and test a video-feedback intervention that aims to reduce this inequality in the way school pupils are taught and encouraged. In addition she will study parental influences on gendered educational and vocational pathways in a large accelerated longitudinal study.
