2017: Leiden Asia Year. Let's have your ideas!

The Leiden Asia Year is almost here. Asia will be the key theme for the University and the city throughout 2017. If staff and students have any ideas about how to make the programme even better, we'd like to hear from you!

Asian Library

The new Asian Library is due to open its doors on 14 September 2017. This is where the university will hold its enormous wealth of treasures on Asia. More than 30 km of books, prints, letters, manuscripts, photos and newspapers will soon be available there for studying and viewing. The Asian Library will be located on a new floor that is being built on top of the University Library on the Witte Singel.

A year full of Asian culture

To mark the opening of this new Asian Library, the University, together with museums and other cultural institutions in the city will be organising a year packed with unique events, performances and exhibitions on Asia. If you want to know more, you can visit the website; new events are being added every day. You can also check out facebook: leidenasiayear.

Let's have your ideas!

Leiden University is asking staff and students for their ideas and initiatives. If you yourself are from Asia, or if you are following or teaching  a programme on Asia, you may have some particular ideas or initiatives on how to celebrate this special year.  Don't be deterred if you're not part of an Asian programme - we want to hear from all our staff and students.

You can pass your ideas on to Rosalien van der Poel, project leader of the Leiden Asia Year: r.h.m.van.der.poel@bb.leidenuniv.nl, 071 527 31 45.
