Upcoming activities by PhDArts candidates Basma Hamdy, Danne Ojeda Hernandez and Joost Grootens

 

Basma Hamdy

PhDArts candidate Basma Hamdy was awarded a scholarship from the Communication Design Educators Awards for excellence in research, based on merit and high academic achievement for her project ‘Walls of Freedom: Street Art of the Egyptian Revolution.’  

Projects selected for this award demonstrate originality, rigor, impact, scope. The award acknowledges the contribution of Basma’s project to communication design’s theoretical, critical, historical and/or visionary foundations.

This same project will also be featured as one of two main sections of the exhibition “Fighting Walls: Street Art in Egypt And Iran”.

 

Basma's ongoing project with Noha Zayed, entitled “Found Khatt: A Typographic Journey through Egypt”, will be part of the exhibition “Cairo Now! City Incomplete” curated by Mohamed ElShahed at Dubai Design Week , which captures, for the first time under one roof, Cairo’s current design culture.

 

Danne Ojeda Hernandez

PhDArts candidate Danne Ojeda Hernandez’s interview with author and book historian Mathieu Lommen has been published in Visible Language, The Journal of Visual Communication Research , the peer-reviewed design journal of  the School of Design at the University of Cincinnati.

Danne is also a panel chair for the Visual Art & Design category of the Undergraduate Awards [link www.undergraduateawards.com], a prestigious and international academic awards programme in Dublin, Ireland, that recognises and rewards innovative young thinkers across 25 disciplines from business and engineering to visual arts.

 

Joost Grootens

PhDArts candidate Joost Grootens will participate in a Mapping workshop within the Master Program Urbanism and Societal Change at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Findings on Light

Studio Joost Grootens designed the publication 'Findings on Light', the third volume in PARS’  'Atlas of Creative Thinking', curated and edited by Hester Aardse & Astrid Alben and published by Lars Müller Publishers.

Stedelijk Museum

Studio Joost Grootens also designed the exhibition graphics for the exhibition 'Dream Out Loud' presented at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.

'Museum Index'

As part of their long term collaboration with the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven that started in 2013, Studio Joost Grootens made the 'Museum Index', a graphic system that allows visitors to oversee the collection and to keep track of possible changes (f.e. loans, new acquisitions).

Nomination

Studio Joost Grootens has received a  nomination for the Dutch Design Awards for the design of the leading Dutch language dictionary Dikke Van Dale.

The best design of 2016 will be exhibited during Dutch Design Week. The award ceremony will take place on the 29th of October.
