Hub Launch of the Municipality of the Hague and the Centre for Innovation

Together with the municipality of The Hague, the Centre for Innovation of Leiden University is launching a new Hub in the city that connects organisations on data technology, peace and justice together.

These organisations, including Leiden University, will work together in a physical work-space in the city to search for data-driven solutions to the issues and concerns in the field of international peace, justice and global security. What digital technology can be used to make the world a better place, and help people and society? The Centre for Innovation will be one of the partners that is providing knowledge about data science and data-driven innovation. The Centre for Innovation explores and executes projects at the juncture of technology, research, education and society. The team of the Centre for Innovation consists of experts on innovation, social science and technology.

The municipality of The Hague and the Centre for Innovation started a multi-disciplinary support team, launched projects, and formed new partnerships. In the upcoming years all the partners in the Hub will work on different projects that will be set up in a short period of time (one or two months). Students and researchers will be contributing and supporting these projects on voluntary basis. The Centre for Innovation will be in charge of collecting all the developed prototypes, and the ideas and prototypes can also be used for academic research and education.

The commitment to the Hub is an important step forward for the involvement of Leiden University in the development of The Hague as the International city of Peace and Justice. The Hague is home to 160 international organisations, many of them in the field of peace and justice - like the International Court of Justice and the Yugoslavia Tribunal. One of the aims of the Centre for Innovation of Leiden University is to connect the city and university more to each other and facilitate that relevant research, from various disciplines of Leiden University, is connected to the positioning of The Hague as International City of Peace and Justice.

The Hub will be officially presented on 3 June in The Hague. International organisations will be present, as well as deputy mayor Ingrid van Engelshoven and Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen.
