Living in Leiden or the Hague
If you choose to pursue your academic career at Leiden University, we advise you to start looking for accommodation as soon as possible.
Finding accommodation can be challenging due to a housing shortage in the city centre of Leiden. Leiden University has a limited supply of rooms, flats and apartments in Leiden and The Hague available for PhD candidates who are looking for accommodation. These are furnished and unfurnished, and can be rented for the period of one month to a maximum of one year.
The rent varies from 500 to 1100 euros per month. For 1100 euros you can rent, for instance, a studio in the University Lodge next to the Hortus Botanicus. In 2015, 168 new unfurnished apartments became available in the former Anatomy Building on Wassenaarseweg. These can be rented through Short Stay Accommodation.
