Taster lecture Bureaucracy: the good, the bad, and the fascinating
This mini lecture opens the metaphorical can of worms that is bureaucracy. Most of us reflexively despise it, but what functions do our bureaucratic systems serve? We take a look at the role of street-level bureaucrats and their discretionary powers: Between questions of bias, arbitrariness, and uncertainty, we explore what research can tell as about the key issues shaping 'the law in action' and ask how that process can be made more equitable.
