About the master European and International Human Rights Law
The Advanced Master of Laws in European and International Human Rights Law at Leiden University provides an in-depth study of how human rights are protected, promoted, and enforced across different legal levels — national, regional, and international.
You will explore key questions such as:
- How do different human rights systems interact, and which are most effective in specific contexts?
- What are the strengths and challenges of mechanisms like the UN, the Council of Europe, and the European Court of Human Rights?
- How do social, political, and cultural settings influence the real-world impact of human rights law?
This programme goes beyond studying law in the books — it also examines law in action. Students learn to apply human rights law in real situations, including during study trips to Strasbourg and/or Geneva.
