Biography
Her research lies at the intersection of language, computation, and society, with a special focus on using Natural Language Processing to advance Human-AI interaction. Her recent research explores how large language models capture social and cultural patterns, including emotions, biases, and stereotypes, and the opportunities and challenges of teaching machines to interact responsibly in these contexts. She received the 2024 Young Researcher in Computer Science National Award from SCIE and the BBVA Foundation in Spain.
Flor is highly active in the NLP community, serving in chairing roles at top-tier conferences and co-organizing international workshops. She is also deeply committed to empowering women in technology, regularly giving talks at events such as Ladies of Data and RISE. She is a member of LIAXX, the LIACS women’s network supporting (future) students, PhD candidates, and staff. She teaches the master’s course Natural Language Processing for Social Good and supervises numerous bachelor’s and master’s students.
