How do social inequality and unequal power relations affect health? And what is needed to make global health more just and inclusive?
We are pleased to invite you to the FSW Health & Well-being Lunch Meeting on the theme Social Inequality and Health.
During this session, researchers Miriam Waltz, Sheila Varadan and Sara de Wit will introduce the Leiden University Network for Health in Africa (LUNHA). They will share how the network approaches global health from the perspectives of justice, equity and inclusion, while explicitly considering the social, political, historical and legal contexts in which health inequalities arise.
The presentation will explore the value of bringing insights from the social sciences, humanities and law into discussions about health in Africa. It will also encourage reflection on how inequalities and power relations can be reproduced within global health initiatives. In addition, the speakers will discuss connections between health, technology, ecological challenges and wider forms of social inequality.
We will conclude with a short discussion on how interdisciplinary perspectives can deepen our understanding of health inequalities and contribute to fairer and more inclusive approaches to global health.
