The Conference represents the concluding event of the EnIgMA Project, an Una Europa Seedfunding, and it will offer an opportunity to engage in with scholars and stakeholders in discussions and exchanges on the criminal justice impact of encryption.

The EnIgMA Project

The EnIgMA project facilitates a critical dialogue on encryption—a technology central to the discourse on crime perpetration, enforcement and fundamental rights protection. By providing an interdisciplinary analysis, the project addresses the challenges of police decryption while simultaneously exploring how encryption can enhance criminal justice. In this sense, the project focuses also on the possibilities that encryption techniques entail for increased data protection in information sharing between law enforcement agencies as well as on the role that encryption plays in ensuring that the digitalisation of justice upholds defence rights established under EU law.
