Peer-to-peer (informal) computer vision PhD Workshop

We’re excited to host an informal PhD Workshop in Computer Vision at LIACS, open to all PhD candidates across Leiden University and LUMC who work with computer vision in any research domain. It’s a friendly space to share ideas, discuss ongoing work, and connect with fellow researchers who are passionate about visual intelligence and its many applications.

Leiden Computer Vision Community Building
We as PhD students feel that as deep learning becomes more mainstream, more researchers are using computer vision models. However, we are working in isolation and are not aware of the work of other researchers in adjacent fields. As a  consequence, we suspect a lot of us are working on similar problems with different data and by never running into each other we miss out. It would be much more productive if we could discuss problems and try and find a solution together.

We would like to change this by creating an inter-institutional community of PhD students and Postdocs. To achieve this, we would like to organize an informal workshop, where you can meet peers and where everyone can briefly explain how they use computer vision in their research. By building this community, we aim to make it easier for peers to ask one another for help.

We are looking for other PhD students and Postdocs across Leiden University and LUMC working with deep learning methodologies within a wide range of computer vision tasks. We are explicitly searching broadly, from medical imaging, astronomy, or fundamental research to digital archaeology, biodiversity, or (electron) microscopy.

Event
During this kick-off event, we want to get to know each other in an informal setting. We will start with short pitches (± 5 min), where everyone introduces themselves and their research.

We will subsequently divide into smaller groups where you can discuss your work and interests in more detail. Afterward, we will have a pizza and drinks for those interested!

What to prepare (5 min)

A three-slide pitch: 1) who am I; 2) what is my research; 3) what are my interests and collaboration goals.

If you are not sure if you fit into the scope of this seminar or would like more information, please send us an email! Jay (j.t.te.beest@liacs.leidenuniv.nl), Luc (l.p.j.strater@liacs.leidenuniv.nl)
