Leiden University has Read & Publish deals with many publishers that allow researchers to read journals and publish open access articles in them at no additional cost. In this interactive lunch lecture, we’ll explain the rationale behind these agreements, and discuss specific terminology they use. Next, we’ll show some tools that help you navigate Read & Publish deals as an author or research support staff. No prior knowledge of open access publishing is needed to join this session. We'll cater for coffee/tea and a sandwich, you just bring any question along.

Topics we'll discuss include: What are the benefits and goals of these deals? Why do Dutch universities participate in most deals, but opt out of some? How do you find out which journals are included in the deals? What are hybrid models, AAMs, and ‘caps’? This session will include a presentation, demonstration of some tools to navigate deals, and plenty of time for questions, practice-based examples, and discussion.

Target audience

Researchers, research support staff, and library colleagues who are interested to know the principles and practices of open access agreements with publishers
