Summary
Combined oral contraceptives (COC) have been around since the 1960s and they are known to increase the risk of venous thrombosis. While a lot is already known about them in association with VT, there are still some unanswered questions.
In this thesis, we address these questions. These include the risk of VT in women who have underlying genetic risk factors and who use COC, the risk of VT after switching COC and identifying high risk women who are about to start COC.
