Summary
Patients with the same disease can respond differently to the same medication due to factors like age, co-existing conditions, or co-medications. Personalized medicine aims to tailor treatments to individual characteristics to improve effectiveness and safety. Pharmacogenomics (PGx), a key component of personalized medicine, studies how a person’s genetic makeup affects their response to drugs. Its goal is to optimize drug therapy by maximizing benefits and minimizing side effects. In this thesis, on the one hand, we investigated how new technologies improve the detection and interpretation of genetic variations. On the other hand, we evaluated the effects of genetic variants on drug response, such as immunosuppressants and anti-cancer drugs, using cohorts and samples.
PhD dissertations
Approximately one week after the defence, PhD dissertations by Leiden PhD students are available digitally through the Leiden Repository, that offers free access to these PhD dissertations.
