A semester course for professionals

Are you working in a field that involves the distribution of materials, electricity, water, energy, communication networks, social networks or other systems with an underlying network structure? And would you like to gain deeper insights into the mathematical theories, techniques and algorithms behind these systems? The course Complex Networks offers you the opportunity to expand your knowledge and apply it directly in practice.

This semester-long course provides a concise and multidisciplinary introduction to the analysis of interconnected networks in areas such as transport, energy, communication and social media. These networks influence how information, crises and decisions spread across the globe. The course combines theory and practice and offers insights from physics, mathematics and computer science. For professionals, it provides valuable tools to better understand complex systems and their impact on operations and decision-making — and to use these insights strategically.

The course workload is expressed in ECs (European Credits), with 1 EC equalling 28 hours of study. The fee is €163 per EC. This includes lectures, tutorials, exams and one resit (if needed). Study materials are not included. Cancellation is possible up to two weeks before the course starts, with a full refund of the course fee. After that point, refunds are no longer possible, even in cases of force majeure, illness, or other circumstances.

Each of the three courses offered is worth 6 ECs.

  • Registration is open until Sunday 25 August 2025.
  • After submitting your registration form, you will receive an invoice.
  • Once we have received your payment, you will receive a confirmation.
  • A student account and student number will then be requested. Without a student number, you cannot be enrolled in a course and are not entitled to participate.
  • Contract students will be registered for lectures and/or tutorials, the exam, and the resit.

Each course includes one main exam (or multiple partial exams) and one resit per academic year. If you do not pass the exam on the first attempt, you are allowed to take the resit within the same academic year.
