Researchers, students and public professionals are invited to register for this Leiden Leadership Lunch. At this lunch you will gain insights into research aimed at developing effective practices around working with volunteers.

Working with volunteers has become an essential aspect of public service. Volunteers not only bring extra help, but also provide a more inclusive approach to problems. During this lunch session, guest researcher Mette Kjærgaard Thomsen from the University of Southern Denmark will present her research "Changing Professionals' Attitudes to Volunteers (CPAV)." About the CPAV-project

Mette is heading the 3-year research project "Changing Service Professionals' Attitudes to Volunteers" (CPAV-Project), which is financed by the Independent Research Fund Denmark with 400,000 Euros. The project examines volunteer management practices and its impact on managers’ and professionals’ attitudes and behavior towards volunteers. The project includes a multidisciplinary team consisting of Associate Professor Ulrich Thy Jensen (Arizona State University), Associate Professor Matthias Döring (University of Southern Denmark), and Postdoctoral Researcher Lærke Bonnesen (University of Southern Denmark).

Why attend?

At this edition of the Leiden Leadership Lunch, you will gain unique insight into ongoing research efforts aimed at developing effective tools to collaborate with volunteers. You'll learn about an online leadership training program that provides public sector managers with insight and knowledge about various volunteer management practices. You'll also learn about a planned study on the impact of these initiatives on the attitudes and behaviors of managers and service professionals toward volunteers. 

Registration and costs

Participation is free but advance registration is required. The event includes a standard vegetarian lunch with consideration given to dietary needs. The language of the event is English.

About Mette

Mette is Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Management at University of Southern Denmark. Her research includes topics such as coproduction with volunteers and service users, service professionals’ response to volunteering and volunteer management practices. She teaches public managers in new types of collaborations such as coproduction, cocreating with service users and volunteers as well as transversal collaboration at the professional master program in Public Governance.
