About the Roundtable

The Al-Babtain Leiden Centre for Arabic Culture will organise a faculty roundtable on the topic of “Societies, Emotions, and Receptions in (modern) Literatures.”

The event is part of Dr. Christian Junge’s visit as the Fall Fellow of the Al-Babtain Leiden Centre.

Five scholars who work on modern literature from different areas and languages will discuss modes of literary productions and receptions in their respective study areas. The aim of the roundtable is to unveil areas of contact and departure between the discussed literatures.

The participating scholars are:

Dr. Christian Junge- Arabic literature

Dr. Annachiara Raya- Swahili literature

Dr. Lenore Todd- Black British literature

Dr. Sara Brandellero- Brazilian literature

Dr. Adriana Churampi Ramirez- Andean literature


Dr. Junge will also give a public lecture as part of the What’s New?! Lecture series.

This Roundtable is part of the visit of Al-Babtain Fellow Dr. Christian Junge.

On 12th of October he will also give a What's New Lecture, Striving for Affect: Amateur Readers and Aswany's Bestsellers on Social Media from 17:15-18:15 in Lipsius 1.48.
