Summary

The studies in this thesis are focused on the physical effects in the flat band materials. The results contain the discovery of strong enhancement of RKKY spin-spin interactions with specific geometric arrangement near flat band filling and dynamical generation of excitonic order parameter with high magnitude catalyzed by the presence of flat band. A number of physical properties of materials influenced by its flat band are studied: optical conductivity, orbital susceptibility and spectral functions in the case of monolayer lattices stacked into bilayer. These theoretical predictions are expected to be observed in a future experiments with flat-band materials as well as suggest possible applications of such materials. Additional chapters contain the studies of the methods to distinguish Majorana zero modes from Andreev levels and Majorana fermions in superconductors.

PhD dissertations

Approximately one week after the defence, PhD dissertations by Leiden PhD students are available digitally through the Leiden Repository, that offers free access to these PhD dissertations. Please note that in some cases a dissertation may be under embargo temporarily and access to its full-text version will only be granted later.
