Update from the Alumni Association Summer 2025
This year marked the celebration of Leiden University’s 450th anniversary, and on February 7, the BAIS Alumni Association, in collaboration with BASIS The Hague, proudly hosted a special BAIS Alumni Reunion to honour the #450 Dies Natalis.
The evening brought together over 70 BAIS alumni across generations for a night of nostalgia and inspiration back on campus, featuring guest speakers who helped shape the program: Dr. Sarita Koendjbiharie, Prof. dr. Richard T. Griffiths, Prof. dr. Giles Scott-Smith, Dr. María Gabriela Palacio Ludeña, and Dr. Jeff Fynn-Paul.
Alumni took a trip down memory lane—reconnecting, sharing life after graduation, and even reliving student life again during a nostalgic class of Macroeconomics by the Spanish Steps. The night was filled with drinks and laughter on campus, followed by dinner at Foodhallen Den Haag.
This event was a powerful reminder of the beauty and strength of staying connected. Is the world as vast and complex as it appears, or does it, in moments like these, feel more like a close-knit global village? While we may not be able to solve all the wicked problems of the world, can we still play a role in shaping meaningful solutions for a better future?
These reflections continue to inspire us to think beyond, and it is through gatherings like this - and the relationships we nurture - that we find strength, purpose, and hope for whatever lies ahead.
Local WhatsApp Groups
To help BAIS alumni connect locally, the BAIS Alumni Association has launched WhatsApp groups in cities around the world since 2022!
How it started:
When alumnus Thiago Souza Machado moved to Paris for his Master’s, he posted on Facebook suggesting a casual meetup. The response was overwhelming—and just like that, the Paris group was born!
